I've had the cast iron stove in my basement since 2001. I love my Dutchwest 2462. I run it from Nov - March, its a long cold winter in Michigan. I heats my 2,300 sq ft basement to 75 degrees with plenty of extra heat drifting upstairs to the rest of the house. Keeps my heating bills below $110. I've experienced the "puffing" or smoke issues the others mentioned. I found its due to a couple ...

This is a great stove. I have had mine since 1999. I burn far less wood for the same amount of heat as a non-cat stove. To all of those who have problems with this stove: The problem is operator error or your installation and not the stove. You don't just throw an armful of whatever in it, light the fire and then sit back. This stove must be operated intelligently and the operator must have ...

I have owned this stove since '93. Have replaced the catalyst three times. I see a lot of posts here of replacing it yearly?!?! Obviously you are using junk wood or are burning things other than wood. The other issue is overfiring. If you over fire the stove you will crack the porcelain. Properly fired and fed they will last for years!

Have had 2 of these stoves over the last 23 years that I use to heat a 2400 Sq ft home in upstate NY. Just trying to nurse this one through one last winter. Have replaced so many parts on these units that I could have purchased a third one. When it works right, it puts out a ton of heat. Have to replace the Convertor every season. Removed the cover and retapped the 4 bolts for bigger / stronger ...

Overall pretty good, BUT...the stupid factory catalytic doesn't last long, maybe 2 years with HEAVY use. Now they have stainless steel ones, cheaper and last longer, but still... . also some back puffing issues occasionally, like frickin' now! sheesh. Probably a good idea to replace any bolts on the interior of the firebox every 2-3 years. My stove is now 8 years old, and every time I have ...

Used in NW Wisconsin for 16 years where its gets 20 below. Replaced Catalytic Converter only once, last year. Occasional puff of smoke, probably due to me not opening door properly. Gives 9hours burn time with 20 inch oak. Easily cleaned and started. Highly recommended, but I will sell because I'm getting too old to keep cutting wood. Have an extra new converter and thermometer. Mr. Dave Curtis- March 7, 2011. Just because you are one of the few people who have not had a backpuffing problem, do not assume that we do not have common sense. I have burned wood stoves in the same configuration in my homestead without incident for several decades until I ran this stove. Therefore, COMMON SENSE would indicate that the stove may be tempermental and through no fault of the ...

Very well made, efficient, attractive, etc. The only problem we've had is sometimes the house gets too hot. As for as the backpuffing goes, keep a clean chimney; also be sure your chimney is high enough with no air leaks, etc., a little common sense goes a long way and is better than a college degree!

We have raised the chimney, burned seasoned wood, added a special chimney cap that was a huge waste of money, have an insulated pipe, have a clean chimney, and added an outside air intake. If you get wind like we do in TX, steer clear of this ...

Love it now that i figure out you NEED a draft, we had problems the first year and then this year I figured out my chimney wasn't sealed properly and it was causing an uneven draft. We have a fire place on the other side of the flue, which I don't, won't ever use, and I used some rigid insulation board and pounded it into the fireplace damper which sealed it. This Stove has been excellent! We have burned more wood in this stove than you could imagine, it is our sole source of heat, and hard woods do the best in it, cottonwood burns up to quickly in this stove in my opinion, plus I'm not much for the amount of ash cottonwood creates.
