I just got an 1983 model 3 Jotul to replace my larger VT Castings Vigilant. I also placed an expensive, high-end thermometer on the stove pipe after I installed it. At full tilt, I max out at 230 degrees going out the pipe; which beat the VT Castings, given it would get out of control and require babysitting. On top of that, I burn about a 1/3 less wood. I re-did all the maintenance and had the chimney checked and everything else ...Overall Performance:

Of course, this years winter is warm, so stove stays on low end of safe range with much more ash generated. Stove not so efficient now with damper and warmer winter! Last year I could put wood in every two hours. My fault as stove is ...
