Lopi Liberty
Lopi claims this is the biggest wood stove they've ever made. The Liberty weighs almost 500 lbs and is made out of 3/16" to 5/16" steel. Puts out over 74,000 BTUs and has a 3.1 cubic foot firebox. The stove is 70% efficient and will heat up to 2500 square feet. If you're looking for a big stove, the Liberty is one of the largest made.

Only problem I see with this stove is the lack of room for ash. The bottom depth of the inside of the stove is so shallow that it has to be cleaned out daily. Which means letting the fire burn down to be able to clean it out. My old stove I could burn for a week before having to clean it out. When there's snow on the ground for weeks at a time having to let the fire burn down every day to ...Overall Performance:

We have had a lopi liberty since 1997. Best investment we ever made. Haven't bought propane in so long my gas company started charging me a tank rental fee because we never use my furnace. In sub zero weather we have to open windows sometimes. I can go to bed at 10:00pm and get up at 6am and house still toasty warm. My only complaint is the blowers they put on the stove are junk. But most ...Overall Performance:

Awsome stove, my dad bought his in 1992, only had to replace the catalyst tubes once. We live in northern Michigan where winters are long and very cold. He burns it from late October through the end of Apri, 24/7, it holds a fire all night using northern pin oak, and will run you out of the house. The stove is located in the basement and is heating 2200 square feet total. The people who reviewed ...Overall Performance:

You will not be able to put large pieces of wood in any EPA approved stove. You can get long wood but your wood needs to be split. Your wood will not dry for 3-4 years unless it's split and you CAN NOT BURN WATER! I swear if you would email me as I mentioned in a previous review there would be zero complaints on this stove. I promise. It's free and you have already bought the stove. I can tell ...Overall Performance:

purched our wood liberty one year ago. Rebates were quite strong on this model. While most efficient, the capacity ratings are a joke. given bevels, which are good for efficiency, it compromises the capacity of the stove for wood content. We can get no less than 3 big pieces of wood, or lots of small, which burn quick. It is good when it burns, but forget the 8-12 hour ratings. Efficient, yes, ...Overall Performance:

We put our Liberty stove in our 2000 sq. ft home in this past summer. I couldn't wait till it got cold to fire it up. We LOVE it. Here it is almost X-mas and we've yet to turn on our heat (we live in northern Ohio.) Not only is this stove attractive, it is very functional. We stoke it full at night we have enough coals to start the fire in the a.m. It does get chilly when we home from work, but ...Overall Performance:

We put in a used Liberty and have been using it about 2 months. We are very happy with it. The operating instructions helped a lot since we were not used to a two lever damper. The instructions say for overnight use set the lever "fully out to 9/32" open".... 9/32??? get real! impossible to measure! Maybe that was supposed to be a joke. We love the glass door but it does need to be cleaned ...Overall Performance:

We have no customers in this review complaining about this stove. That's because we train all of our customers how to properly use this stove. I bought my Lopi Liberty 3 1/2 yrs. ago and have not been happy with it. I have arthritis and the front sliding damper is so hard to pull out I struggle with it. The side damper closing off the chimney sticks and I have to beat on it to close it. The stove is not air tight and runs away so have to be careful about how much wood I put in it. Now one of the baffles in the top of the stove fell ...Overall Performance:

in reading all these reviews, i suspect that those who had negative responses are usually newbies to the wood stove market. and every stove performs a little different on so many factors as location, flu length, type of wood, starting the fire etc. ive had mine (lopi) for 10 years and it did take a while to fine tune the system . ive used jotuls, wood furnace (riteway) , even an old ashley ...Overall Performance:

I have had the stove for one year. Burning good hard wood I always have a good bed of coals in the morning or after work for getting the stove going again. It is does a good job heating my 2,200 sqft house located 1 hour south of Montreal. I don't particularly like the lower damper, it has a loud grinding/scraping sound when operated. It seem quite a few people are have combustion issues. ...Overall Performance:

We put a Lopi Liberty in our 1500 sf home five years ago. It will roast you out of the house in a few hours! Holds a lot of wood and has a looong burn time and I always have a huge pile of red glowing coals in the morning. We have no complaints and have had no problems with our Lopi, I recommend Lopi to all my friends!Overall Performance:

We purchased a Model 520-96 in 1993 when we built our house. It is 1644 sq ft and we have never had any problems keeping our entire house warm with it. Over night, there are still coals in the morning to restart the fire. Since 1993, I have only used the furnace maybe a dozen times, and this was to take the edge off because I was gone 14 hours. This was in the Sierra Nevada in Northern CA. We ...Overall Performance:

I have used it for 10 years and it has needed the metal bars in the top of the stove replaced once which hold the firebrick in place. Needs to have the bricks on top removed each year and to clean the ash deposits out as ash here reduce the efficency a lot. We use in northern Minnesota to heat our house of 2700 sq' (3 levels). This stove really kicks the heat again if you maintain it ...Overall Performance:

I agree with most of above raters that Lopi liberty is no gem. I have been searching for door the gasket size for an hour and haven't found it yet. The size of gasket is not in the manual because they don't want to miss selling you their rediculusly priced factory item. They will not let parts be sold on line so if you live in boonies like us you are "SOL". Air intake is hard to control. Read all ...Overall Performance:

This stove no way will heat 2500 sq ft. My house is 1800 sq ft and it wont heat that. We had a fisher grand pa bear for 30 years and it would heat our house turned, all the way down but, it was to polluting. Also custermer support is awfull you can't even order parts on line, or on the phone you have to call a dealer. then it takes a month to get the part. i would never buy an other lopi stove.Overall Performance:

We have used our liberty for 6 years now, and in year 3, the middle air tube fell out. Other than that we have no complaints. In north eastern California we can only get softwoods (mainly), so we also have problems getting a burn to last all night. Many times, however, I do have a few coals in the morning that I can use to get it going again. I also noticed that if I keep logs in the 14 inch ...Overall Performance:

I have been heating my home with wood for 30 years. I replaced my Hurricane stove with a lopi Republic 1750. Worst mistake I ever made. You have to nurse this stove for at least an hour to get a fire going enough to even begin to get any heat. My house constantly has smoke in it when I am burning the stove. The fire box is small and there is no way to get the stove to burn all night. I will ...Overall Performance:

The Lopi Liberty is a newly designed, energy efficient woodstove. It is engineered to burn quite differently than older designs. Anyone having trouble with a Lopi stove doesn't understand how to operate a modern designed stove. Can't teach old dogs new tricks, I guess.Overall Performance:

I have a Lopi model 520 \ 96 shich I beleive is the Liberty model. I just put it in a cabin after having in storage for 10 years. It is the worst stove I have tried to feel warm with!! I grew up with & around wood stoves. I've been a forester for 35 years. We've never got the Liberty to hold a fire more than 7.5 hours, regardless of condition of the wood. We've had one part after another repeatedly wear out, more so than on any other similar stove we've seen! The dealer who had the closest store to us in The Dalles OR was often rude & unhelpful. This is the second Lopi stove we have owned. We have had the Liberty stove for 2 1/2 yrs and have been very happy with it up until now. We reserched stoves for months, then decided to purchase the Liberty by Lopi. We were attracted to the stove for its size and looks. The energy eff. also made my wife proud. We have used this stove for five seasons and could not be happier. Having many friends who have stove to heat their home only reinforces our pride of purchasing this unit. As you can see we are pleased.
